As much as volunteerism can leave us feeling alone and overwhelmed, there is nobility in the labors of love we undertake on behalf of children, schools, and the causes that drive our commitment to our communities.
It’s easy enough to spot us… because we’re the ones doing most of the work and taking little or none of the credit. We’re happy in these behind-the-scenes roles, because there is a deep and intrinsic value in doing the work that makes a difference in the lives of our own children… and hopefully also those who come later.
The late, great Erma Bombeck wrote a wonderful article on this very topic and I don’t think anybody has ever said it better.
